Restaurant Staff Excellence: Five Courses Every Front-Line Team Member Should Finish

Every restaurant has a handful of basics that every team member should know, whatever their role. How to treat a guest. How to behave professionally. How to work safely. How to keep the place clean. How to respect the stock that pays everyone’s wages.

Most businesses teach these informally, and inconsistently. Restaurant Staff Excellence brings them together in one bundle your whole front-line team can complete on their phones.

What is inside

Restaurant Staff Excellence contains five courses.

Customer Service Excellence teaches first impressions, reading guests, handling complaints and turning first-time visitors into regulars.

Business Etiquette covers professional conduct, communication, appearance and the small courtesies guests notice.

Occupational Health and Safety covers the everyday hazards in a hospitality workplace and how to prevent accidents.

Cleaning SOPs sets out clear standards for keeping kitchens, dining areas and bathrooms clean and safe.

Inventory Management explains why stock matters, how to handle it properly and how small habits prevent losses.

Who it is for

Waiters, bar staff, hosts, runners, cashiers and kitchen assistants — anyone who represents your business to guests or handles your stock. It is especially useful for new starters, because it gives them a solid foundation in their first month.

Waiters who need full table-service training should also take Waitering Excellence, our dedicated programme for the floor, which is sold separately.

How it works

Buy the bundle and your staff member receives their login by email. They learn in short lessons in the browser or the free app for iPhone and Android, with 30 days to complete all five courses. Each course ends with an assessment at a 70% pass mark and a Certificate of Attendance.

If you are buying for several staff, you can buy multiple seats in one checkout and register each person yourself afterwards. We explain the process in our guide to group training later in this series, and on our For Franchise Groups page.

What it costs

The bundle is US$139 per person — under US$28 per course — and prices display in your local currency. There is no setup fee and no contract.

Why a bundle rather than one course

Service, safety, cleanliness and stock control are connected. A waiter who understands stock waste will not over-pour. A host who understands safety will notice the wet floor. Training them together builds a team that sees the whole restaurant, not just their own job.

It also helps with retention. Restaurant365’s 2026 mid-year report found that operators now rank training as their top strategy for keeping staff. People stay where they feel capable and invested in.

Think about your newest team member. Which of these five areas have they actually been taught — and which have they had to guess?
